Putting It Together

You now know every block in a classic subtractive synth. Time to see them as one machine. Nearly every synth ever sold, from a 1972 Minimoog to the softsynth in your DAW, is this exact signal chain:

OSCILLATOR (raw, bright) → FILTER (sculpt the tone) → AMPLIFIER + ENVELOPE (shape it in time), with LFOs and envelopes wired to whatever needs motion.

Here's that whole chain in one instrument. Try the classic moves: a saw with cutoff low and resonance up; a slow-attack square pad; LFO→Filter cranked at 4–6 Hz for wobble bass.
